When I collected all the paper artifacts I just threw them in a box. It took me three years to process and recover from my four HIV strokes. Last year when I was looking carefully at each object and each piece of paper I found this stain that looked like half a brain. I was shocked and thought “wow!”, what a perfectly beautiful thing. You see two weeks after my meltdown, six weeks after Hurricane Wilma, five weeks with no electricity, and 4 months after what was my first stroke, I had a massive second stroke while driving my car on the freeway going 70 miles an hour. The entire right side of my body froze. I felt nothing and could not move. I ran my car into a ditch and somebody called 911.

The Neurologist at the hospital came in looked at my chart and said, “For somebody with 5 T-cells you look fucking great and you have had some kind of stroke but you have no normal stroke conditions, you have the lowest cholesterol of any patient I have had, you have no plaque in you veins and your blood pressure is normal. This must be some strange HIV stroke. After several MRI’s they found a fungal infection growing on the outside of my brain. I could not walk for 3 months but then I started to move. I had two more strokes in the hospital.

This is my beautiful brain-stain.
